I have no idea why everyone on facebook is filling my wall with images of black kids with blue eyes, commenting on the children's beauty.
Anyway, while of couse I think the babies are beautiful, I can't help wondering why almost everyone's comments where centered on the beauty of the blue eyes. Not one comment on the skin or the hair; what makes this kid beautiful is the white characteristic, the light blue eyes.
These photos are usually posted in places saying how racism is bad- but really, the way they are viewed just perpetuates the idealization of ther white beauty model. Just paired with brown skin.
We see this in the fashion industry too, where almost all black models have white characteristics.
.
Hmm..I was thinking the same thing...here in India, having white skin and/or light eyes is supposed to be awesome...and some girls are ready to do ANYTHING to avoid a tan....and although blue eyes are beautiful, this doesn't mean that the other eye colours are not...Nice post though :)
ReplyDeleteTrue. We should be proud of our heritage. But moderately. I'm proud of being both Indian and American. Because of my cultural differences, I am moderate about it.
DeleteI understand your point and it's a valid one but I think in the case of this baby (but not the models you're referring to) the reason people are commenting on his eyes is because it is unusual to see eyes that blue on a black baby. It's unique enough to be startling and it grabs people's attention which is why they comment on it. I have a multiracial son. His father is Greek, German, English and Scottish while I am black and Eastern European. My son has white skin, blue eyes and blond hair. From his coloring you'd never know he was part black, BUT he has black features. An African nose, full African lips and really curly hair. People are ALWAYS remarking on how wonderful his curly hair and full lips are. This is what they notice and are impressed with because white people don't usually have features quite like that. Again, if you have a unique look people will comment on what makes it unique.
ReplyDeleteBut it's also true that black women are always being pressured to have straight hair which is called "good hair" and lighter skinned black actresses are 5xs more likely to get roles than dark skinned ones. So again, your point is valid.
Awwwwe gorgeous baby boy
ReplyDeleteso fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis baby looks really cute with his blue eyes. Whether it is real or not, all of us must really take care of ourselves, especially our eyes. Nowadays, even kids have eye problems that's why me and my kids always go to our optometrist in Indianapolis to have an eye check-up. Indeed, our optometrist (Indianapolis, IN area is really doing a very great job in maintaining our beautiful and healthy eyes.
ReplyDeletewell blue is just beautiful, skin color to me is non existance, but light blue is just the most beautiful color ive known its endless like the sky u cant find an end to that color its like u can see into the soul
ReplyDeleteYes, it is very rare to African-Americans to have blue eyes. But this cute baby deserves his beautiful marble blue eyes. True colors are not seen on the skin but rather through our eyes. As the quote says, "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder."
ReplyDeleteEven though his parents may have dark eyes, both must carry the gene for blue eyes in order for his eyes to be blue. Since virtually all African Americans are 25+% European, they often have children who manifest recessive European genes, while Hispanics and Asians, who are pure blood, don't have blond/blue eyed children.
ReplyDeleteHispanics are Spanish, or originating from Spain. Latinos are a mix of the Spanish (Europeans) and the indigenous of America. "Latinos" is panethnic term for people from Latin America.
Deletenever mind black or Afro-"latinos". I guess we don't count.
DeleteAsians can have babies with blue eyes. I know of a couple from China who actually have a kid with red hair and blue eyes, and both parents are 100% Chinese.
ReplyDeleteHe looks so cute. I like his sweet smile. He has a cheeky look. He looks as if he thought about what I now alternate. I think that's very sweet. I love curls, his are so pretty. It's just a very pretty baby. He's looks so friendly and happy. He will be determined once a great person, inside and outside. I envy you very much. You have such a beautiful baby.
ReplyDeleteMixed people are more beautiful and more healthier as there is less risk to gene dreif.
ReplyDeleteIt irks me a little that anyone needs to turn the compliments of a beautiful baby into an issue of racism. Just as Kyradavis suggested, it's the uniqueness of the this baby's features that warrants people's remarks and it's only natural. It IS quite unusual in fact to see such vivid blue eyes together with dark bronze skin such as this and we ALL know it. The contrast is amazing and one can't help but to take notice. Racism has absolutely nothing to do with why people think this baby is any more beautiful then if he had brown eyes! The hate and stupidity needs to stop!
ReplyDeletehear in montenegroo many people had blue eyes but l love when the afro amerikan had blue eyes /..its georgeus
ReplyDeleteThis is actually the first photo of seen of this particular child. Honestly, I really like blue eyes when they are on people with darker skin tones. Sadly, the one time i saw it in real life, she was wearing coloured contacts, but it was breathtaking. Completely stopped me in my tracks.
ReplyDeleteI think it has everything to do with the contrast.
The fact that he has blue eyes is the trait that makes him stand out. In general, people easily notice physical characteristics that are different from what they are used to seeing. I think all babies are beautiful, regardless of the color of their skin and eyes.
ReplyDeleteI am black with blue eyes. I get comments all the time. I agree with some post and don't think that it's really about race, but just about the uniqueness of the combination of dark skin and lighter eyes. I don't see it any differently about complimenting someone with beautiful hair or a nice smile regardless of race. I do agree that the baby is beautiful...completely... hair, skin, and all. But the skin and hair combination are common. The blue eyes are not, so I understand why the comments were focused on his eyes.
ReplyDeletethis child is beautiful!! yes people hes got blue eyes so what??? he is a beauty!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful because it is unusual. Blue eyes are associated with a lower level of melanin, the same element responsible for lighter skin tone. So a black person with blue eyes (I actually have never seen anyone) is interesting.
ReplyDeleteHe looks beautiful in what ever eyes colors...........
ReplyDeletePlease stop trying to put white people in black people. Just because a black person is beautiful doesn't mean they have some white in them.
ReplyDeleteTrue right right. I totally agree.
Deleteonly 2% of the population have blue eyes, 8% have red hair, blue eyed genetics can be traced back to one individual, it is the uniqueness of the a black person having blue eyes that is the amazing thing since it is extremely rare, if it was a white kid no-one make such a big deal out of it.. retard
ReplyDeletereal nigga say word yen neva tld no lie
ReplyDeletereal nigga say tru!(:
-im loving the blue eyes,,,
I think it more has to do with the contrast. I have the same reaction when a person has light skin and light hair, but with really dark brown eyes.
ReplyDeletePlease not everybody is centralizing on merely the eyes. There are ugly people with the baby -bluest eyes ever. Kid is cute all around.
ReplyDeleteWell. This child looks better than a white one with blue eyes. Is not the "white" characteristic but the perfect contrast of light and dark.Black beautiful hair, perfect dark skin. Contrast. Doh! The same a white child with black eyes looks more captivating than a blue eyed one. The perfect contrast between the color of skin, hair and eyes again.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I am white, and I have brown eyes. But blue eyes feels like wake-time, daytime, a time when there is daylight, and therefore time to do something. Playtime. Blue sky, Sun, summertime. No clouds. I guess it's like seeing a blue bird verses a sparrow. It has nothing whatesoever to do with race. A far as the worth of a soul goes, I think that's all about being a child of God, but I will respond to them based on behavior. If there is abuse of power between either of us, that's the only thing to look down on, a bad behavior, not a physical trait. I may be white, but I grew up in a white community where, at school, I was a girl, short, not very smart and voiceless, so I was bullied. I knew nothing on the black world, I only knew what was happening to me. I am an artist so when I'd draw a scene to cheer myself up, I always drew very dark brown eyes and dark hair, and when I was a teen, I died my hair black. I also like rainy days. Now I'm over that, and I crave sun. Suddenly one day, I needed light, blues, and for the first time ever, thought I'd like to try blond hair. Blue cheered me up. As an artist, and one from the white paste-y community, I was frustrated I could not ssem to get a tan without burning, nor could I keep a tan. I notice every little girl in toddler modeling gets spray-tanned. Dark eyes likeglazed chocolate drops are wonderful. But blue eyes against dark skin, that's a treat because blue against brown anywhere in nature just happens to be a striking contrast. Contrast attracts like opposites on a color wheel. I don't believe the blue has anything to do with it being a white thing. Blue is just .a pretty color. But it naturally melts the soul into rest, just like when you are at the ocean seeing blue water. Blue has it's own color psychology. Claiming that it's a caucasion thing is giving us too much credit
ReplyDeleteI showed the picture to my children and the first thing they said was eww he looks like a zombie, So the white charcteristics don't make him beautiful to everyone but it is a wonderfully breathtaking contrast nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteThe post is showing such beautiful eys. They are beautiful. Have a look at it
